The Normandy American Cemetery is the final resting place of over 9,500 Americans who were killed in the D-Day assault and subsequent days in the Battle for Normandy in 1944.

The cemetery was deliberately located above the bluffs of Omaha Beach where so many American soldiers died on the opening day of the invasion of Europe on 6th June 1944.  It is well known to film fans as it featured at the start and finish of the World War II film 'Saving Private Ryan'.
