How do I use the content from Video History Today?

The video and photograph content available on Video History Today is designed to be easily use with any video editing software (Windows Moviemaker; Adobe Premiere Elements etc).

        Introduction

Below is a sample file from the site of the former concentration camp at Plazsow.  Download the file (the file has been zipped but there are many online pieces of software that can be obtained freely that will unzip it- Video History Today uses Cam UnZIP).

        Standard Format

Each downloadable file will contain similiar sub-files.  These can be summarised below:

  1. Video clips.  The number of clips will vary greatly depending upon the subject.
  2. Photographs.  These images can be added to any video editing software and can also be used in written reports.
  3. Video Index.  There will always be atleast two Video Indexes.  One will be a real time, with sound, index which includes all the video clips contained in the file.  Atleast one more Video Index will be included which is a muted, speeded up version of the real-time index.  This allows the user to quickly see what is contained on the file and note the relevent clip reference number.  (Important note: in all cases the video quality will be significantly lower on the indexes than the orginal clips).

On some occasions there will be an 'Additional information' file.  This file will contain other information such as maps, web links or information sources which might help with further research in the area concerned.

This section of Video History Today will present articles that will help members use the video clips to make their own video essays and tips on how to capture their own video.
